Dear Parents,

This week we have had fun building different buildings that we find in the city. The following work was covered:

Reading:

· Long a

· Story words – ball, town, countries, Earth, giant

· Sequencing pictures from a story

English:

· We continued working on the writing process.

· Personal Narratives

Math:

· Symmetry

· Find a Pattern

· Chapter Review

Social Science:

· We continued discussing Cities

What I did over the Chinese New Year Break. I will not give your child a grade this week.



I would like to welcome Victoria Lee and Yvette Coort and their families to our school and hope that they will soon feel part of our great class.

Sadly we say good-bye to Erin and her family. We wish the Chang family well and hope to remain in contact with them.

Next week their will be no school; classes will reopen on Monday, 7 February. If you are going away for the vacation, I wish you a safe journey; if you are staying in Taiwan, I wish you a great time with your children - before you know it they are all grown up! We look forward to seeing you again after the break.

Week 19

We started looking at cities. In particular we looked at the types of buildings and transport we find in a city.

Dear Parents,


From speaking to your children, it is clear how much they enjoyed being with Mr Saki Marais, who taught them from Monday to Wednesday last week. Thank you to Mr Marais for helping out in my absence.


This week we started our new theme in Social Studies, City and Suburb. As an Art project I would like to make a class city. Please can you collect and send boxes of different shapes and sizes to school by Friday, 21 January. The class will be divided into groups to build their cities.


We will also look at the different forms of transport one finds in a city. For Oral Presentations, next Wednesday 26 January, please help your child prepare a one minute presentation about the transport one finds in a city. A poster may be helpful for your child to remember what they are going to say.


The following questions might help you to formulate the content:


1) What kind of transport do we find? For land, sea, and air

2) Examples of the different forms of transport

3) Where did you take that form of transport?

4) Your favourite form of transport and why?

First week back

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school. I hope that you had a festive and relaxing holiday.

I would like to welcome Finn Whiteside and his family to our school and hope that he will soon feel part of our great class.

This is week is a short week so we will not be having any tests or oral presentations. However next week we will have the following tests:

Monday, 17 January – Maths Chapter 7 test

Wednesday, 19 January – No Oral Presentation

Friday, 21 January - English Unit 5 test and Spelling List 3 Test

Next week Monday till Thursday I will be away from school; my class will be taught by a qualified substitute teacher for these days. Homework will still be sent home every day and Grade 1 will continue to go to specialist subject teachers. Should you have any questions while I am away, please contact the office. I will be back at school on Friday, 14 January.
